About Us...
Our rattery began in 1995 as an a rescue. It started while Cara was in high school and began taking rats home that needed homes from the biology department. Throughout college, rats still played a major role in my (Cara's) life. I double majored in Equestrian Studies and Business Management, due to my extreme love for animals. Since then, I continued to take in rescue ratties that were looking for homes or were in dire situations. Jesse and I met in 2003 back in our home town of Newark, Ohio. In 2004 we became engaged, and Jesse too has developed a love for fancy rats. As we began learning more about ratties we truly wanted to begin working with breeding and genetics. We officially opened our doors as "Lavender Haven Rattery and Rescue" in 2004.We were married August 13, 2005. Our goals as a rattery are working on hairless and rexing while keeping good health, temperament and type. The 2 colors we are mainly focusing on are Russian Blue and Black. The main objective is to breed for the whole rat and not a certain characteristic. With the help from our mentor ratteries, Spoiled Ratten Rattery and Landmark Rattery we have learned so much and are very excited about the future.
