Hammocks

Hammocks come in a variety of styles and sizes. In a pet store you may spend $10-$20 per hammock. As you already may know, they tend to take some abuse from their rattie users. As we have several ratties and cages the best option for us is to make our own. I purchase fleece (purple) of course and use a fabric roll cutter to cut it into squares. The fleece does very well in not fraying and holds several ratties at once. For our hammocks we use approximately a 10-12 inch square. Then I cut 4 small slits, one in each corner. You can use a variety of items to hang them with but I have found the best one for me are the plastic "O" hooks used for shower curtains. They seem to be chew resistant and clean well. A homemade hammock may last 1-2 cage cleaning and can be laundered. I then throw it away and use a new one. It has proven to be a very hygienic and in-expensive approach.
